I may start the New Year with a trip to Washington DC. I would like to do this by foot, but the weather is scarying me. lol I do this in solidarity for the growing homeless and to find an easy medium of expression from the grass roots level for us to speak as a community. If I go ahead with this, I maybe off line, but will give up dates as I get to a computer. Here's the add I posted on Gregs list asking for help:
I'm looking into walking to DC from NY. Need help coordinating journey given changes along the route and poor GPS service on phone. The March is my way to demonstrate my solidarity with the growing homeless because of this real estate crisis and to provide a forum of expression for others who would like to see the housing issue take a greater priority over all the other special interest groups lining up in DC for the trillion dollar 'stimulus' package. Looking for someone to help coordinate both the journey's route (initially via the net) as well as help those that would like to join and participate at different junctures along the way. The most pressing of course is to coordinate those willing to provide room & board through out the trip as we make our way to DC. I should be starting the 'march' tomorrow so write and let me know of your interest, talents and ideas. If this is done properly, I believe we maybe able to raise some funds as well, but that has more to do with your own fund raising expertise. Learn more about me and our work at roopa.org
Dec. 31st 08-Jan6th.
Well, I was out of my residence by 10:30 pm Dec. 31st and headed to a nice Asrama in Brooklyn called the Radha Govinda Temple. I spent the 1st 3 days of the year there which coincided with a birthday celebration with one ofthe gurus of the asrama.
I left the 4th after a day of writing correspondence and took the train to Elizabeth NJ. It took about an hour to figure out the map at a Mexican Bakery at 304 Morris Ave. Headed out by about 6:30 pm. Walked til 10 and made it as far as Garfield and Elizabeth Ave. There was an apt. building for sale along with a boat in the back yard. I slept there for the night. Boy was it cold. I would have frozen if I had to sleep outside exposed to the wind. We will have to see what happens tonight.
Had breakfast at White Rose. The owner, Rich, was great. Helped with directions. Had 2 bowls of grits.
(Could you some documentary type of people who would like to take pics or vid of it as well.)
